Variety reports that James Caan, Andy Samberg, Bruce Campbell, Mr. T, and Tracy Morgan will also lend their vocal talents to the project, a planned 3-D film that is currently scheduled for a January 15th, 2010 release.

Evil Dead remake still in the cards

I have you say that this is the first time a remake got me excited since John Carpenter's The Thing and Chuck Russell's The Blob. OK I'll cut to the chase, according to Bloody Disgusting they are planning to film Evil Dead the Musical in 3D. I truly don't know what to expect, but at least this look a lot more original that what ever Michael Bay has 'made'.

After numerous delays, the new Bruce Campbell movie, “My Name Is Bruce,” has finally announced an October release date, but for comic book fans, the first taste of the long-awaited film will come a month earlier. A one-shot comic book companion to the movie, written by Milton Freewater, Jr. and penciled by Cliff Richards, is due out on September 24th from Dark Horse Comics.

Go to Mtv to read an interview with BC where he talks about ED4 and the inclusion of a younger sidekick:

“I think the audience would be insulted if you did, because then you feel this obvious pressure to appeal,” he said. “The beauty of the ‘Evil Dead’ movies is that you’re only appealing to one demographic and that’s people who like horror movies. And you just have to please them. You don’t have to appeal to the studio. You’re already pleasing them by giving them part 4.”

Well I can truly say that this is looking better and better (though it's not hard to be less disappointing then Indy4 or Die Hard4 I guess).

Here's an interview with BC, it's basically about BurnNotice but he says this about Bubba Nosferatu:

"Well, it’s a bit of a tease but I must say that the truth of the matter is I couldn’t come to an agreement with the filmmaker about what type of film we wanted to make so we felt it was best, rather than jeopardize what I consider to be a good friendship, we let it go. So it fell apart and I don’t think it’ll come back together again."

Back from the Dead-ish

Ok it's been a while. I for one have been busy with school and working on other websites. but it's seems people still visit this site. I guess it's maybe an idea to do a restart with this blog or maybe go elsewhere, not to mention expand the community, so that everybody can add BC info. so if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears. Anyway I haven't heard anything from Deckle either so maybe he's out, I dunno.

ok now for some things we missed; an update on bruce. well the things I have found over the last few months were that 'Vacation' is still being made and WITH BC according to this interview:

" As of a few weeks ago, all the funds are there to make it on a low budget, no frills level. But the main producer is currently producing something else that doesn’t get out for a month or so, and Bruce Campbell is not actually acting but he has a producer credit on the big budget Hollywood remake of The Evil Dead. I’ve spoken to him and I know he’s up for it, but I know that this is insignificant money-wise compared to the Evil Dead remake, which will steamroller us if we get in the way. It’s basically a question of juggling our dates to survive."

The thing is that, according to a friend of mine whose been to the San Diego ComicCon, the Evil Dead remake has been dropped (Groovy) in favour of [hold on to your butts...] EVIL DEAD 4. Sorry I don't have a link to prove it, but I trust my friend and according to him Raimi said this himself and not as a reaction to some annoying fan.

SEOUL -- "Evil Dead: The Musical" may not have been a killer hit Off Broadway, but it's slaying them in South Korea. The campy Canadian musical based on Sam Raimi's cult slasher films is packing them in at the Chungmu Art Hall Theater, where it opened March 19 and is scheduled to run through June 14.

According to lead producer Jeffrey Latimer, various representatives of the Japanese market are negotiating for the property, while a German production also has been signed for later this year.

Back in Toronto, where the musical gorefest began in 2003, the show reopened for the fifth time on Feb. 14 and has just been held over into summer.

So how does a show that failed commercially in Gotham manage to spin out a life halfway around the world?

There are a couple of explanations. One is the fact that Korea is, quite simply, crazy for musical theater.

"The passion for musicals in Korea is unbelievable," says Adam Gentle, international licensing manager for the Broadway Asia Co. "There were 160 individual musical productions produced last year in Seoul. Our company alone grossed $28 million from this city in 2007."

There’s a film called "The Horribleness" that my friend Josh Becker has written, which will star Bruce Campbell, Ted Raimi and myself, and will hopefully be shot this summer. It’s a hysterical horror-comedy script in the nature of the Munsters or the Addams Family. I’m very excited about doing the voice of Lucy in the upcoming UK animated short Where’s the Vampire, animated by Roger Betiol and written by Carl Kirschner. David Naughton is doing the other voice. Also in the works is a film out of Detroit called Morrow Road, in which I’ll play the ghost of a mother searching for her lost child.

According Fangoria (magazine #270) one of the ladies from the first Evil Dead said they (the three of them) have recorded a commentary track for the movie, yet it doesn't appear on AnchorBay's Ultimate Edition . Now I don't want to be a cynical bastard and truly love AnchorBay, but I smell a quadruple dip.

So far, Ash has crossed over with Darkman, the Marvel Universe (Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc) and now he will venture into the Xena-verse. I think the Evil Dead franchise was one of those rare and wonderful instances where all the right ingredients came together and produced something magical. Director Sam Raimi, producer Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell took a story that, bare bones, could have been just another routine slasher movie and elevated the material into something unique. I still remember seeing a midnight showing of the first Evil Dead in Los Angeles, probably 1983, not long after word had started to spread. The crowd went absolutely nuts and I was hooked from that moment on.

I’m not sure it’s for me to see the potential, this is Sam, Rob and Bruce’s world and I’m just temping. That said, from a fan’s perspective, I would love to see an Evil Dead 4 with the three original creators at the helm, because I know they would surprise, amuse and entertain us in ways mere mortals can’t begin to imagine.

Phantasm V back in production

Apparently Phantasm 5 is supposed to go into production after the writers strike. Now you might think, yeah so... what has this to do with BC? Well, a few years ago, when this movie was also supposed to be made, it had BC as one of the actors. Though this was a script, that was written by Roger Avary (who wrote Pulp Fiction), called Phantasms End. And at this point it still seems unclear if this is the script that's being filmed and if this includes BC. I personally would love to see Don Coscarelli team up with BC again (even if it's not for Bubba Nosferatu) and seeing BC in action with Reggie would be my dream come true. It also seems that this movie delays Bubba Nosferatu.

Cinematical is reporting that Bruce Campbell is joining the movie Ghost Town starring Tea Leoni, Ricky Gervais, Kristin Wiig, and Greg Kinnear. This is FALSE. It's actually Billy Campbell that has joined the film and not Bruce. Here is what Cinematical had to say about Bruce in the movie:

"He has signed on to play Leoni's character's fiance -- the one that the dentist really isn't into. Since this ghostly apparition isn't through Whoopi, I keep wondering if it'll end up with Kinnear taking over Gervais' body to have a second chance with his wife. If you head over to MTV.com you can read some interresting tips on how to survive a zombie attack. All the genre icons are included (Sam Raimi, Quentin Tarantino, Eli Roth etc.) and ofcource the main man also has a tip:
"Mostly with regard to any zombie, all you have to do is run — because they can't move very quickly," agreed Bruce Campbell, the "Evil Dead" star who reigns as the most beloved zombie killer of all time. "And it's no use trying to speak to them, because they can't communicate. Just run!"

Bruce recently hosted the award for 'Best Horror Film' at the Scream Awards and in typical Bruce style, took the oppotunity to throw a few classic one liner stingers Hollywood's way. To see Bruce in action click here.

Bruce also stopped on the 'black' carpet and was questioned about My Name is Bruce, Burn Notice and Bubba Nosferatu. It is sad to see his face when the interviewer indicates that fans will be miserable/angry about Burce turning down Bubba Nosferatu but good to see him talk about these things in person rather than read the comments in a magazine.

Evil Dead goes Porn

It seems a re-make of our beloved movie is underway, though a little different then I had expected. But I guess porn is a logical follow up after Evil Dead the musical. It'll go by the name of Evil Head and is made by the same guy who already did pornographic versions of Re-animator and The Exorsist (guess what they're called ;) ). Personally I don't know what to expect (and if I actually want to see this), but I'm guessing it will not be a story driven piece.

The Ultimate Evil Dead edition

Yes, finally some new BC news. Dvdactive reports that another Evil Dead DVD is on the way. This is a 3-disc set, though, seems to be the Evil Dead: Book of the Dead Edition disc, together with the 4th disc of the UK Evil Dead trilogy box set (which was the full frame version, btw also released with the Box of the Banned set) and an extra disc.

here are the full details:

Anchor Bay Entertainment has officially announced a 3-Disc Ultimate Edition of The Evil Dead which stars Bruce Campbell. This classic Sam Raimi directed film will be available to own from the 18th December, and should retail at around $34.97. Both anamorphic widescreen and full screen presentations will be included on seperate discs. The widescreen edition will include a commentary by Director Sam Raimi and Producer Robert Tapert, whereas the full screen version will include a Bruce Campbell commentary.

Other features include a One by One We Will Take You: The Untold Saga of The Evil Dead documentary, some new Treasures from the Cutting Room Floor, a Life After Death: The Ladies of The Evil Dead featurette, a Ladies of The Evil Dead Meet Bruce Campbell featurette, and an Unconventional featurette with the cast and crew. Joseph Lo Duca Composing The Music For 'My Name Is Bruce'

Now during my recent hiatus My Name Is Bruce writer Mark Verhedien updated his blog and gave us some newsworthy information about the film. It's about a week old on Verheiden's blog but it hasn't been posted here yet and I wouldn't want Bruce fans to know any less than I do about the film. Verhiden tells us that Joseph LoDuca will be composing the music for My Name Is Bruce. LoDuca has composed music for Bruce projects all the way back to the Evil Dead days and also projects like Xena, Hercules, and Man With A Screaming Brain. Here is what Verheiden said about the upcoming film.

"Work continues apace on finishing MY NAME IS BRUCE the motion picture. Trust me, we're all itching to get 'er threaded up and throbbing inside your eager brain-pans. I've heard some of composer Joe (EVIL DEAD 2) DeLuca's soundtrack music, and it's pitch perfect. The terrifying Guan-Di monster is getting more monsterous by the day and the sound more soundariffic, but like fine wine, MNIB will not be released before its time. This is not because of any second thoughts, and in fact we (Bruce Campbell, Dark Horse honcho Mike Richardson and moi) are still gathering to palaver over a sequel. Nope. This post production stuff just takes time..."

The Globe and Mail in Canada had an extensive article on Bruce Campbell in todays paper. The article doesn't really give us any more news on what Bruce is doing these days other than Burn Notice but Bruce does talk about why he thinks The Evil Dead Musical has Canadian origins:

"Canadians in general, I've found, love humour," he says. "They love stuff that's over the top, so it made sense that it came from here. They're pretty jolly folks, the Canadians"

The article talks about how The Evil Dead Musical will be going overseas to locations including Korea, Germany, and Japan.

Movie Clerks Wants To See Bruce In 'War Monkeys'

Dark Horse Indie, the same company that is producing My Name Is Bruce, has greenlit a project called War Monkeys and Movie Clerks suggests that Bruce Campbell would make the movie a "classic" if Bruce was in the project. Here is what the story is about:

"The story follows a janitor who, during a Christmas holiday, gets trapped in an underground research facility with military-trained Rhesus monkeys"

I think everyone can see Bruce playing the janitor. This is all wishful thinking on the part of Movie Clerks and it seems that Bruce's name is requested by fans for nearly all indie sci-fi movie these days. But it is a possibility that Bruce might land a role in the film considering that Mike Richardson is executive producing this as well. You can read the full story here.

No Time To Burn This Week

As Cinemablend states:

"It looks like USA is airing the U.S. Open on Thursday night so there’s no new episode of Burn Notice this week."

Looks like Burn Notice will be back on September 13th and potentially will be wrapping up with the season finale on September 20th since USA Network only does half seasons. If you are waiting for the show to come out on DVD, don't expect it to come out until a few weeks before season two starts next June.

Bruce Campbell Parts Ways With Coscarelli, Turns Down 'Bubba Nosferatu'.

Fangoria said it best, "Bruce Campbell dropped a bombshell" on its listeners of Fangoria radio today by turning down Bubba Nosferatu, the sequel to the cult classic Bubba Ho-Tep. Here is an excerpt from Bruce regarding the project:

"Bubba Nosferatu is dead to me. It sleeps with the fishes. Don Coscarelli is a very passionate filmmaker. We got to a few points [developing the screenplay] that we couldn’t reconcile. I want to keep our friendship, so we parted ways. So I’m not part of that project."

As far as Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash is concerned, Bruce had this to say:

"It blows! You really think Ash would be allowed to kill Freddy and Jason off? We [including EVIL DEAD creator Sam Raimi] didn’t have any control on the project, New Line did, so there was no reason to do it"

Bruce becomes pessimistic when he talks about doing another Evil Dead film:

"Raimi still talks about it, but he’s in no rush to do it with everything else he has going on. Sam jokes, ‘Maybe we can do another EVIL DEAD when we’re 70"

Bruce also goes onto talk about the failures of Alien Apocalypse and Man with a Screaming Brain, Burn Notice picked up for a second season, and that his publisher wants him to write a third book. The full interview can be found here.

According to Paul Giamatti BC isn't sure yet if he wants to pick up the sunglasses again:
“Bruce Campbell was waffling around about whether he wants to play Elvis or not again. So that’s the problem,” said Giamatti. “You gotta have Elvis and you really want him playing Elvis, so hopefully we can get him to do it. If not, I’m sure they will try and find somebody else but I think it’s contingent on whether he’ll do it or not. It’s a great script, a completely insane script. I would love to do that because I love [Bubba Ho-Tep]. It’s a great movie.”

So we're blessed with the great Giamatti, who truely loves the movie:
"I would really like to do that," Giamatti revealed. "Did you ever see Bubba Ho-Tep? Great movie. And that director [Don Coscarelli], I love that guy's movies. All the Phantasm movies and stuff. But we are trying to do it."

Now come on Bruce it's time for some 'A-C-T-I-O-N' or somebody else will be 'lubing the Kings crankshaft'.

Freddy vs Jason vs Ash goes to paper

ok this is not really BC news but it's Bruce related (and better then no news at all). Anyhow, a while ago (more like a few years) there were rumours that our beloved Ash would feature in the sequel to Freddy VS Jason and even a treatement was written. Though Sam pulled the plug, saying he wanted to keep Ash for himself (thank god). But now the treatment will be released as a comic book. Personally I hope it will be better then those comics Dynamite is releasing lately (only Ash VS Marvel Zombies is worth it really). more news at Fangoria and Bloody Disgusting and the treatment can be found here

BruceCampbell online has been updated to give us another heads-up on Burn Notice. We also learn a bit more about BCs character Sam Axe:

"USA Network has a fancy new spy-turned-one-man-A-team premiering this month called Burn Notice, starring that dude from Touching Evil, that chick from Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead, and that guy from Sundown: A Vampire in Retreat.

Bruce plays Sam Axe, a Jimmy-Buffet-shirt-wearing former special ops warrior who has devoted his post-conflict years to drinking as many and having as much sex on the beach as possible.

Burn Notice starts June 28th at 10PM on USA and is so far scheduled for 13 episodes. We're all very excited and trust that both of the people who routinely visit Bruce Campbell Online will watch, TiVo, iTune, or Joost every episode (people who own Zunes are not allowed to watch).

Bruce not in Bubba-Nosferatu???

Ain't it cool.com posted a letter from a BC fan who went to the CineVegas Film Festival screening of My Name is Bruce. There was a Q&A afterwards where BC stated: "[He] is not involved in the sequel. He doesn’t know what is going on with the movie, but that he is not involved at this point."
Is this BC misleading us (like he did with the spider-man movies) or is he truly not playing the King? I, for one, can't imagine why Don Coscarelli [the Director] would get someone else to play Elvis, he has said before that he loved working with BC and wanted to make the sequel with him. Not to mention that BC was praised for his role as the King so it would be odd to choose a different actor. It's also strange that Paul Giamatti has confirmed his role as Col. Parker, so why can't Bruce?
Personally I think this is just BCs way of messing with us and he's probably telling the truth, as he's not involved 'at this point' since they're probably writing the script or doing some other post-production stuff. So he might still get on board when shooting starts.

According to Fangoria August 7 will see the release of a new Special edition of Bubba Ho-tep (pictured on the left). This will probably be the same disc as the previous release (so no extra bonus material, like the ones from the UK disc), but repackaged in this cool jacked.
And on the other side of the ocean, the Region 2 people will finally get the release of 'Man with Screaming Brain' and 'Alien Apocalypse' thanks to Anchor Bay UK . This seems to be a double feature including both movies (either on one disc or two), due for the 27th of August.

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's 'Devil's Trade' Online

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's production company, Ghosthouse Pictures, recently teamed up with FEARnet to produce a live action webseries titled Devil's Trade. Consisting of a series of short webisodes, Devil's Trade follows three teenagers who become "cursed after buying at item online". I doubt Sam is contributing creatively to project and is mostly financing the online series along with Rob Tapert. Maybe they can get Bruce to show up in the series to create a little more buzz . Bruce updated his Official Website recently and gave everyone an update on when his upcoming film, My Name Is Bruce, will be screened at the previously reported Cinevegas film festival. Here is what Bruce's website had to say:

Bruce Campbell's 'My Name Is Bruce' Car Is Up For Sale

Much thanks to Anthony for the following. Well, an 'ebayer' has advertised Bruce Campbell's car from My Name Is Bruce on the public auctioning website Ebay. As of right now, bidding on the vehicle has closed but the item went unsold. Here is a short description of the vehicle:

"This car was used in the yet to be released film, "My Name is Bruce," written, directed, and starring Bruce Campbell. This car was used as his car. Hard to believe because it so ugly. But the script called for a "sh**y embarrassing car" to be Bruce Cambells car in this comedy lampooning the real Bruce Campbell's life. This car played as his car throughout the film and was heavily featured with him in it in three scenes. Now i would of liked to have tried to sell this to a bruce campbell fan after the movie came out. But mom is mad at me. I worked on that film shot in ashland, oregon but have since moved to new york city to work in the film industry. So now mom is trying to sell the house and its a huge eye sore. But not an eye sore for a bruce campbell groupy"

The Other One From The Super 8 Days

The one little known figure from the Super 8 days of Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell is, now author, Cheryl Klam. Klam, who recently wrote the novel "Christmas Magic", was featured in an article on Capital Online in which she talks about her recent trip to LA to meet her old pals from Michigan. Here is an excerpt from the article:

"When Mr. Raimi enrolled in college he met Mr. Tapert and they began what would become a life-long association in film. The circle of college and high school friends included those who eventually became major forces on the Hollywood scene - Scott Spigel, John Cameron, Bruce Campbell and Josh Becker."

That is her playing Cheryl Guttridge in the first Evil Dead. It was a little known secret, until now, that there was a female that made movies with Sam, Rob, and Bruce during their 'Super 8' days. You can read the full article here.

Thanks to Jessica for the following. So Bruce Campbell is achieving some huge attention lately for his second Old Spice commercial and there were a few articles recently on his presence as the figurehead for Old Spice. The Salt Lake Tribune ran an article on Bruce titled "Cult star finds success via advertising and the Web". The article talks about how Bruce is finally bringing coolness to Old Spice. Here is an excerpt of the article:

"[Campbell embodies the "confidence and charisma" of an Old Spice wearer, Allen said. "You could basically eat a chili dog, and getting it all over your face, and be yourself, and women would still come to you."]"

Also, the Star Telegram had a review of Bruce in his new commercial and had the following to say about the Geek God:

"The Evil Dead/Spider-Man actor, right, goes hilariously old-school macho in these spots for the classic fragrance, especially in the one where he sits at a piano and does a lounge version of Duran Duran's Hungry Like the Wolf while surrounded by models who look like they stepped out of The Dean Martin Show. The next audience to witness Bruce Campbell's new movie My Name Is Bruce will be at the upcoming CineVegas Film Festival, which is dubbed "The Worlds Most Dangerous Film Festival". So the gang at Mad About Movies dedicated a whole podcast to Bruce Campbell. Marina, who manages the Mad About Movies, wanted me to let everyone know that this podcast was online for all Bruce fans to listen to. The podcast talks about Bruce while he was young, his film work, and his cult status. It's a round-table discussion involving a number of individuals who all are pretty passionate about Bruce. Nathan Fillion "On Par" With Bruce Campbell

About a year posted a rant on how I believe that Nathan Fillion is the next Bruce Campbell, if you could say such a thing. I know that no one can be Bruce, but Fillion draws many similarities to our 'Geek God' Bruce Campbell. Well, the City Paper Online had a review of Nathan Fillion's new movie Waitress and they had this comparison to make regarding Fillion and Bruce Campbell:

"[Fillion] has, with his comic timing, quirky quips, and Han Solo-esque charm, become something of a cult figure on par with, say, Bruce Campbell. Firefly's devoted fans--called Browncoats--are almost as devoted and crazed as Trekkies."

Obviously the similarities are open for debate.

'Spider-Man 2.1' Has More Bruce?

So Sony/Marvel doubled dipped recently and released Spider-Man 2.1 on DVD. The new Spider-Man 2 disk set features material that was cut out of the film when it was shown in theaters a few years ago. 411 Mania recently had a review of the film and had the following to say about more footage of Bruce in the new disk set:

"So there's a lot of added little lines and footage at the pizza parlor, when Peter makes his deliveries at the office, some more of Otto and his wife, and yes even some more of our favorite actor, Bruce Campbell. "

So I guess there is more footage of Bruce in this one. I'm not sure if its an extended cut of the 'Snooty Usher' scene or if its more Bruce in the bonus features. You can check out the full article here.

First Look At Bruce Campbell's New Show 'Burn Notice'

Just to get you all up to date, Bruce Campbell will be co-starring in the new USA Network television show titled Burn Notice. Set to premeire on June 28th, Burn Notice is about "a spy who has been given a burn notice -- he's been fired from his job and has to investigate who did it to him and why". The first preview for the show has finally been unveiled, but sadly, the thirty second first look at Burn Notice does not have any footage of Bruce. Bruce plays the character of 'Sam' who is the "only friend" of the lead character in the show. More previews will be coming out soon that have Bruce in them but you can watch this 'Bruce-less' teaser here until then.

At the news feed section on the Rolling Stone site, Bruce's new Old Spice commercial was highly praised and they even said that Bruce is "one of the greatest actors of our time". Here is the section mentioning Bruce:

"What happens when you combine one of the greatest actors of our time with Duran Duran? You get the inimitable Bruce Campbell singing “Hungry Like a Wolf” in this incredible commerical for Old Spice."

Obviously the individual publishing the news for the Rolling Stone is a huge fan of Bruce, but he isn't exaggerating when he says that Bruce is "one of the greatest".

Bruce Campbell Is The "King Of Camp"

Slow news day. So the Evil Dead Musical relocated back to Toronto and The BigTO newspaper had a blurb about Bruce Campbell. Here is an excerpt from the article:

"Evil Dead: The musical follows the format of the first two horror films of the same name. Those films became cult hits in the early 80's and made a star out of its hero. Ash, played by the king of camp Bruce Campbell. Those films helped encapsulate an era of film genre. The "gore" genre. Here we have a 2-hour musical version of the films that strives to keep the 'campiness' at its maximum and infuse as much of the genre stereotypes as it can to get the laughs as well."

I received an e-mail from Jessica, who works public relations for Old Spice, and she sent me the link to the behind the scenes coverage of Bruce Campbell's last Old Spice commercial where he recites Duran Duran lyrics while being surrounded by plenty women hovering beside his piano. Games Asylum recently had a review of the new Spider-Man 3 video game and they had a mention of Bruce as the narrator for the game. Here is an excerpt from the review:

Petition To Get Bruce A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Credit goes to Barb for being the source for the next story. There is a petition out there to get our much beloved Bruce Campbell a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Bruce deserves to have his name engraved in gold and hopefully the petition will give this cause a little more attention. I actually started the petition to get Jack of All Trades put on DVD many years ago and in the end we got the DVD package, so petitions do work in many cases but we need a lot of names on this petition to make some noise on behalf of Bruce. I didn't start this petition but whoever did, the Bruce world will hopefully back your cause up. You can sign the petition here.

Evil Dead: The Musical Review

Evil Dead: The Musical is currently playing in Toronto, Canada. It was recently reviewed here. The review is definitely favorable. Here's a selection:

"The centerpiece of Evil Dead, of course, is department-store-stacker turned-demonkiller Ash, played in the movies by Bruce Campbell and played onstage since the beginning by virtual doppelganger Ryan Ward. Bruce Campbell Takes A 'Vacation'

If you haven't heard yet, now you have, Bruce Campbell has been tapped to star in the upcoming Richard Stanley film Vacation. In a recent interview with Fangoria, Stanley said that Bruce is "committed" to the low budget independent project. Stanley gives Fangoria an insight into the starring role that Bruce will be playing in the film:

"Bruce is Bryce, a failing East Coast banker with a coke habit who books himself and his significantly younger lap-dancer ‘girlfriend,’ Carly, into a seedy Middle Eastern tourist resort. He’s hoping for a spot of late-season sun and surf, a last, desperate stab at romance and the happiness that has always eluded him. They are so caught up in their own petty problems that neither of them realize at first that the end is truly nigh—quite literally the end of the world"

Get excited everyone. Bruce starring in a movie where he has to save the world, its gonna be good no matter the budget.

The New York Observer Goes Anti-Bruce

The New York Observer had a completely negative review of Spider-Man 3 and also started spreading some Bruce Campbell hate with the following comment regarding Bruce's cameo in the upcoming film:

"There is one long, irrelevant and disruptive sequence in which no-talent Raimi sidekick Bruce Campbell appears as a French waiter that makes you wonder what these people were swallowing besides designer water."

I've probably come across hundred's of reviews for Spider-Man 3 with Bruce Campbell being mentioned and this was the only one that had something negative to say about Bruce. Right before reading The New York Observer review, I read the Boston Herald's review of Spider-Man 3 in which they said that Bruce Campbell was a "good luck charm" for Sam Raimi movies. Bottom line, I know I have my biases but, screw The New York Observer. Hail To The King, Bruce Campbell.

With the release of Spider-Man 3 ever-so-near, Bruce Campbell is going media bonanza as he just finished an interview with Game Daily. The interview is short and asks questions related to mostly video games and Bruce's 'geekness'. When asked about why he makes so many cameo appearences in movies, Bruce modestly had the following to say:

"I simply enjoy acting, so it doesn't matter to me what the size of the role is. A little spoiler: most good roles are small ones."

Bruce also goes on to talk a little about the Evil Dead video games, the Spider-Man 3 video game, and that the only system he plays is a Nintendo Wii.

Apparently Bruce Campbell's role as a as a French restaurant maitre d' in Spider-man 3 is based on a French teacher he and Sam had in high school.

"Sam and I had French class in high school. We had a teacher we both enjoyed and we liked making fun of the accent and practicing the accent. When he gave me the maitre d' role, he said, 'Let's do the French thing.'"

Bruce Interviewed by USA Today

Today, Bruce was interviewed extensively by USA Today about his relationship with Sam Raimi and their struggles to survive in the business. The article goes in depth into the struggles of Sam during the 80's and 90's to land on his feet and the people he went on the journey with. Here is an excerpt of what Bruce had to say about Sam:

"He wears nicer suits, but they're still rumpled, He's making these huge movies, but he's still learning. His skills are growing exponentially, but he wants to know what everyone else thinks. He's become one of the best directors around. But he's still Sam."

The article also interviews Sam who said that:

"Once we close this chapter on Spider-Man, I need to just get away from things for a while. I'm too obsessed that the people who say critical things about me are right, even though I'm getting to do something I love".

Who knows if "getting away from things for a while" means getting away from the Spider-Man franchise or from directing all together for a bit. Hopefully the desire to do Evil Dead IV is still burning in him.

Sam Raimi Trying To Get His Brother Ivan To Help Write 'Evil Dead IV'

The Herald Sun, an Australian newspaper, interviewed Sam Raimi recently in a Spider-Man 3 press junket and Sam touched on Bruce Campbell and Evil Dead IV. When asked about his friendship with Bruce, Sam had the following to say:

"I love Bruce – he is really funny and I always enjoy working with him. We went to high school together and we would make movies as kids and he is one of my oldest friends. He is always torturing Peter Parker."

The next question directed toward Sam was about the possibility of Evil Dead IV in 2008. Here is Sam's response:

"Well I'm trying to get my brother, Ivan, to write the screenplay with me. He wrote Army of Darkness, the third one, with me and we have been talking about another one, but we haven't started work on it."

So that's the first time I've heard of Sam talking about writing the screenplay for Evil Dead IV. Hopefully his comments here is a step in the right direction for the return of Ash.

'My Name Is Bruce 2' Confirmed In New Interview WIth Bruce

IESB had a great interview with Bruce Campbell today at a recent NBC press junket for his new show Burn Notice in which Bruce co-stars. In the interview Bruce states that the producers of My Name Is Bruce already have raised funding for the second film and that My Name Is Bruce 2 will again shoot in Bruce's backyard in Oregon. Also, Bruce says that My Name Is Bruce is in the post-production stage right now with special effects being added so that they are a "high enough grade for theatres". Bubba Ho-Tep is still in the pre-production phase because a script for the film is still not finished. My Name is Bruce will have "tons" of Evil Dead and Bubba Ho-Tep references. Finally, Bruce had the following to say when asked about about a possible Evil Dead IV with Sam Raimi:

"Sam probably didn’t mention the second half of that which is he doesn’t need to right now. We can always make another Evil Dead movie when we are in the “old actors and directors home.” But right now he’s not quite there."

My Name is Bruce writer, Mark Verheiden, says that My Name is Bruce will be shown at the Cannes film festival in May. The film won't be screened in competition, but nonetheless will be shown. No further details on a theatrical release of My Name is Bruce are yet known.

Sam Raimi on 'Evil Dead IV'

Recently Sam Raimi conducted an interview with IESB.net. In it he talks about Spider-man, The Hobbit, other upcoming projects, and more importantly Bruce Campbell. Around the middle of the interview Sam talks about making films with Bruce in highschool, and towards the end he mentions an Evil Dead sequel:

"I would definitely like to make another Evil Dead film with Bruce [Campbell] one day. I don't know when, but I would definitely like to do it and I love working with Bruce."

Honestly, I'm doubtful that it will ever happen. Sam's been mentioning Evil Dead IV for years and nothing's come of it. At least we have My Name is Bruce and Bubba Nosferatu to look forward to. And even if Sam doesn't make Evil Dead IV, his other films will almost certainly have cameos by Bruce.

Oh, and I'm glad the blog is back in action!

Tobey Maguire Says Bruce's Cameo In 'Spider-Man 3' The Best One Yet

Tobey Maguire did an interview with Movies Online a few days ago and had the following to say about his scene with our man Bruce:

"It wasn’t really like ad libbed. There was a different tone at first to the scene. It was kind of more confrontational. And we thought it would be funny -- we were kind of getting along strangely. There were some awkward moments, but I thought it would be a better tone if we were getting along better. You know, Sam is always coming up with gags or different jokes. So I think everybody was throwing some ideas here and there and it did change up a bit. You know, and there is some ad lib in there. That was a lot of fun. And I thought Bruce was fantastic and the best appearance of the three appearances for him in these movies"

Update On 'The Totally Geeky Guide To Bruce Campbell'

Upon request, I went out and inquired regarding the upcoming book, The Totally Geeky Guide To Bruce Campbell. The book is going to be written by MaryAnn Johanson, who runs FlickFilosopher, and is in the development stages as of right now. Johanson gives us an update on what the book is all about:

"I'm delighted that people are excited about the book. There's not much to tell, however -- the book is only in the very early planning stages. But the idea is that I will explore and interpret Bruce's career -- and why we his work seems to speak in a particular way to those of a geekish persuasion -- from the perspective of the fan. I would love to talk to Bruce about his work and get his take on his own work, and I will try to do that, but the important thing here is that this will emphatically not be about an insider's perspective: it won't be about funny stories from the set, making-of trivia, or anything like that. It'll be about figuring out why we all love Bruce so much. The book will feature commentary on Bruce's work from an overall perspective, and also on a project-by-project basis. If anyone wants an idea of what the book will be like, I suggest they take a look at my *Princess Bride* book (you posted an image of the cover at your blog). And of course, buying that book will only encourage me to get to work on the Bruce book!"

Fans will flock to anything thats about Bruce. I'll keep you updated if anything happens regarding the project.

'Evil Dead: The Comic' Update

Thanks to Dimitris for the following. Mark Verheiden, who wrote the upcoming Bruce film My Name Is Bruce, has also penned the comic book adaptation of The Evil Dead. This comic book will feature new scenes and one liners of our hero Ash. Here is the update on the project courtesy of Verheiden's blog:

"I visited the lovely Dark Horse offices in Milwaukie Oregon last week, where I got to see the almost finished artwork for our EVIL DEAD adaptation/expansion. I know I've posted this before, but artist John Bolton is absolutely pulling out all the stops on this baby. Every page is a full color painting, and John's renderings of the demonic goings-ons are absolutely horrific. Remember, this isn't just a straight adaptation, but an authorized "expansion" of the first movie, with new scenes. For instance: for those familiar with the film, there's a sequense where the Scotty character runs from the shack, only to return battered and broken. Well, for the first time you're going to see exactly what happened to poor Scotty in the woods. And it isn't pretty! Finally, for those comic fans who are concerned about scheduling, 3 1/2 issues of the 4 issue series are in-house, done, finished, complete! So when this series is finally solicited, you're going to get four slabs of on-time, monthly hell-on-Earthness. Beautiful art, Bruce Campbell, Evil Dead and timeliness! Is this a great world or what?"
