Evil Dead: The Musical Review
Evil Dead: The Musical is currently playing in Toronto, Canada. It was recently reviewed here. The review is definitely favorable. Here's a selection:"The centerpiece of Evil Dead, of course, is department-store-stacker turned-demonkiller Ash, played in the movies by Bruce Campbell and played onstage since the beginning by virtual doppelganger Ryan Ward. By now Ward has most of Campbell’s quirky mannerisms down, particularly the edge-of-hysteria power-laugh, reserved for mowing down demon-possessed friends and for bearing the taunts and infernally bad puns of his also-possessed sister Cheryl (Rachel Fischer)."

This isn't really any news, but I remember an early article (sometime last year) about Nathan Fillion being the next Bruce Campbell. Well, Nate is one step closer now that he has two cancelled TV shows under his belt (the fox show "Drive")
Since I live in the Netherlands I have not been able to see it, but I have the soundtrack at home. The back cover features a quote of Bruce :)
The songs are amazing in my opinion and the guy who plays Ash has a nice voice. And you can recognize several one liners from the movies in the songs or spoken intervals, which I think is cool.
I got a chance to see the show when it was in New York. When I first found out about it, me and my friend, another Evil Dead fan, where thinking "You got to be kidding, right?" But I have to say, that I was really impressed. It was an intertesting blend of all of the films, plus on stage dismemberment. It doesn't get much cooler when stage blood is flying all over the place in the finale. I wish I could have been in the "splatter zone". The make up was great as well as the set design. Ward was great as Ash, it was like seeing Ash live which is what made this musical so cool. The musical does have some catchy tunes. I find myself singing "Do the Necronomicon" while at work. I recommend buying the cast album. It's on Itunes if anyone is interested. I might need to take a trip to Toronto to see this again.
Just saw the play on Thursday and had a blast, my bud and I sat up in the 'Splatter Zone'. There was so much bloody it was hysterical everyone around me was covered in it! (I was the lucky one)
If you ever get the chance to see it, you really should take the opportunity.
